Paleolithic Diet, is it what we need?

March 25th, 2008

“You are what you eat”.  Anthelme Brillat-Savarin , an 18th century French politician once said, “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are.” The 19th century philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach said, “Man is what he eats.”  This does appear to be true as today, we are  as unhealthy as the food that we put into our bodies. We are unhealthy because we consume too much carbohydrate, (grains including bread, pasta & noodles) sugar, potatoes, alcohol,  dairy & salt.

We also may smoke too much,  do not get enough exercise and spend too much time sitting down.

If you want to turn this around visit the The Paleolithic Diet Page for excellent advice and information about how to eat healthyly without any commercial pressures to consume processed food. For more advice on what and how to eat, what not open a post?

This Article Is For Information Purpose Only Before Taking Any Medication First Consult Your Doctor

Melatonin  supplements may help relax your nerves, aid you to get over jet lag and achieve a recuperative sleep. When you have proper rest and relaxation the body often feels healthier, which promotes health. When the body is overstressed you often harm the body and mind, and weaken the immune system which leads to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, etc.

Melatonin secretes from hormones through the pineal glands (located in the brain). Melatonin will help regulate sleep, and nerves. The downside is as we grow older, we loose healthy productions of Melatonin. Melatonin can delay the aging process, also Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant that can help prevent or fight cancers and cardiovascular diseases. Research has shown that Melatonin (Along with Light Therapy) may help against one form of depression, that of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). In fact this is the main treatment for many people with winter depression.

Melatonin is responsible for augmenting the blood-brain barriers, which works to promote health. According to studies, Melatonin increased could slow Alzheimer’s, including dementia. Some Alzheimer patients, show heightened afternoon agitation, called sundowning which has been shown to be effectively treated with taking Melatonin supplements in the evening. Melatonin has also shown to slow cancer tumors spreading.

If you suffer sleeping or nervous problems you may want to start taking Melatonin as a supplement that are recommended to take during night hours; since it will help you sleep. When you achieve recuperative rest, along with relaxation you will find yourself feeling better each day. Now, if you want to compliment Melatonin you will also need to exercise and set a balanced diet.

There are another group of people who may benefit from taking melatonin and that is night workers who may suffer from insomnia. People who work during the night get their biological clocks really messed up. They are awaken during the dark hours and try to sleep during the light hours. But then, when they have one or more days off work, their natural instinct is to synchronize their timetables again with the family and friends around them and they try to resume a normal sleep schedule. They are constantly changing their hours of sleep. In these cases, since Melatonin production is suppressed by light, it does indeed seem to be helpful to take melatonin for insomnia when you are trying to sleep during daylight hours.

Melatonin overall is a hormone of color, which changes regularly. The hormones derive from the brain’s serotonin, which secretes through the pineal glands. The glands produce changes, including color of skin, and are important for the regulation of biorhythm. Biorhythm is a nature-based cyclical, which affects the physiological changes. The changes could include sleep, wake, reproductive cycles, and often takes place in the body’s living organisms. Melatonin is low in the body we can endure low stress. But constant high stress causes pressure to increase, which causes nervous tension, constant worry, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, and so forth. The strain comes down on the brain and body. When the body and mind undergoes serious volumes of stress, it can lead to major health problems. Some of the health problems could include heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, high blood, etc.

With this in mind we can see starting exercise, diet, and daily supplements of Melatonin can increase our lifespan. Still, you want to visit your doctor to find out what your body needs before starting any routines. Having an understanding of what your body needs is important to good health.

Hello world!

March 19th, 2008

This natural health awareness BLOG has been started because there is a universal need to raise the level of consciousness in all individuals. The need is on many fronts, but in this case specifically, consciousness or self awareness of ones own health.  The current perception that health-care provided by the state or private insurance can be relied upon to provide for all our health needs, is very much in doubt.

As you are reading this post, you may well be fully aware of the responsibility we each have for looking after our own health. If this is so, you are in a quite small majority. Excuses abound for not assuming this responsibility on an individual level ranging from hereditary effects to “I have paid my dues”, from Doctor knows best to “the evidence is contradictory”.

So, our goal is to raise the level of awareness in enough of the population to reach the “tipping point” or critical mass. We are far from alone in this but given that the population of the world passed 6.6 billion last month (February 2008), there is a lot of persuading to do.

We have a few sources of vital news in the realm of natural health awareness; Dr Michael Eades, Dr Daniel Chong and Dr Mercola are three very respected and influential mentors that we read regularly. However, if you have someone you regularly read or consult, we would be pleased to hear about them.

So to get the BLOG rolling, here is a sample of the topics I see us covering:-

  • Natural, drug-free health care
  • Eradication of the risk of heart attack (the world’s number one killer)
  • Finding the complete truth about cancers
  • The real causes of type 2 diabetes and the way to reverse it
  • Do we have to live with joint pains (arthritis, gout, rheumatism etc.)?
  • What is the truth about how much sleep we actually need versus the myths?
  • Oh, and I nearly forgot! Obesity and what can be done about it.

So come on, get involved and contribute to the mission.
